This is a crazy, crazy world of...monuments

A monument is a structure either explicitly created to commemorate a person or important event or which has become important to a social group as a part of their remembrance of past events. They are frequently used to improve the appearance of a city or location.
Monuments have been created for thousands of years, and they are often the most durable and famous symbols of ancient civilizations.
When we hear the word monument we generally draw an image of a classical monument. But for the previous hundred years there have appeared so many monument which can be called monuments of new age. It seems there are monuments to every thing in the world – to the kiss, to Rocky Balboa, high-heeled shoe, zebra, garbage, etc. recently the monument to the shoe thrown at ex-president George Bush by a journalist was erected somewhere in Iran.
Looking at some really weird and funny monuments who knows what the future generations will think of us. We would like to present the strange monuments around the world we were surprised by most of all.

Here they are:
Commuters arriving at Shinjuku's Kamiigusa Station in Tokyo see this: A large Gundam statue! Kamiigusa is home of Sunrise, Inc., the anime studio behind Gundam.
The erection of this statue was made possible due to lots of petitions of this popular manga character fans.

The monument to Volkswagen Beetle is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Production of Volkswagen Beetle in Brazil ended in 1986, then restarted in 1993 and continued until 1996. The monument combines two Volkswagen Beetle cars.

Not only cars or cartoon characters become monuments. There are entire house that can be called like this.

The Dancing House is the nickname given to the Nationale-Nederlanden building in downtown Prague, Czech Republic.
It was designed by Yugoslavian-born Czech architect Vlado Miluni in co-operation with Canadian architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot (where the previous building had been destroyed during the Bombing of Prague in 1945). The building was designed in 1992 and completed in 1996. The very non-traditional design was controversial at the time. Originally named Fred and Ginger (after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers - the house vaguely resembles a pair of dancers) the house stands out among the Neo-Baroque, Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings for which Prague is famous. Others have nicknamed it "Drunk House".
On the roof is a French restaurant with magnificent views of the city. The building's other tenants include several multinational firms.

Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum building in Missouri is a monumemnt in itself. The Branson, Missouri museum looks like a stone edifice that was cracked by an earthquake.
Shark Monument
The Shark became the most famous resident of Headington (Oxford, UK) when it landed in the roof of 2 New High Street on 9 August 1986. This ordinary home (built as a semi-detached house in about 1860 but now attached by a link to a second house to the north) suddenly became the centre of world attention, and the headless shark still excites interest today.
Monument to Radioactive Decay
What do you do when you have a barn-sized pile of nuclear waste materials that you have to store for 100 years while it loses its toxicity? In the Netherlands, the answer was to stick it inside a giant art project: specifically, this orange building called the Habog Facility, covered in physics formulas by Einstein and Planck. Every twenty years, the building will be repainted in a lighter color to symbolize the slowly decaying radiation in the waste. The waste in the building comes from two different nuclear reactors. Under local law, it must be stored for 100 years. William Verstraeten, the artist who designed the facility, views his piece as a commentary on metaphorphosis. Open for tours, the building also contains four symbolic paintings.
On one of the embankment in Budapest, Hungary you can see lots of men and women’s footwear. The history says the Nazis killed people at this place during WW2. The victims were ordered to put their shoes off.
Statue of a hanging man by his arm, above a storefront in Prague, Check republic. Sculpture by David Cernэ. It difficult to guess the meaning of this monument, but some Russian tourists say the figure of this man resembles Lenin. Probably this is because of the cap.

The statue of a space cow in Stockholm, Sweden is not the weirdest one in the country.
From one of the city embankments you can see a giant man’s hand and a nose sticking out of the water. The hand is always pointing at the Jupiter. It was erected first. In a year the nose was added.

In Budapest there is also a monument to the cow. It is a statue of a blue cow which is melting and has a large popsicle stick on its behind.

In France there are lots of interesting monuments apart from the Eiffel Tower. For example, “Le pouce” (the thumb), this is exactly what you think it is, a giant thumb monument in Arc de la Defense, Paris.
Visitors to Nice, France can enjoy some lovely Mediterranean architecture and sculptures. One of the most interesting sculptures is entitled La Tкte au Carrй de Sosno. This gigantic piece of art can be found across the road from the Acropolis Convention Centre.

There is even a monument to a headless man! The headless businessman of Ernst & Young building appears to be a man with his head stuck in a brick wall. You can see this statue in LA.
In Melbourne, Australia you will encounter the upside-down
Monument to La Trobe. This contemporary monument to Charles La Trobe in central Melbourne was removed at the end of June 2006 and has been acquired by La Trobe University. The monument is quite ordinary, but the fact it stands on its head makes it unique.
In Amsterdam, Netherlands you will see another head - a statue of an unknown artist in the entrance of the City Hall/Music Theater. Here a violinist bursts through the tiled floor.

This is the Grifo Majico, which appears to float in the sky with an endless supply of water. In actuality, there is a pipe hidden in the stream of water. It is located in Aqualand, Cadiz.
Extreme Parking monument is actually the work of artist Theo van Laar, who has continued the car park markings up the wall and attached a gravity-defying Mini. At night time the car’s headlights even light up! You can see the work from the ground during the day or at night in Westenbergstraat, Netherlands.
A copy of da Vinci’s Mona Lisa can be seen in front of Asus headquarter in Taiwan. It is made from computer chips.
And finally there is a monument in Ponta Grossa – Brazil to a huge piece of …well; it is really up to you to decide.
